GBH Suspended Sentence | Delighted Client

We acted for TH who was initially charged with two counts of Section 18 Assault – Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) – Wounding (with intent) and possession of a bladed article (knife). If convicted of s18 GBH, TH could have been sentenced to around 10 years in prison.

After careful negotiation with the CPS on the day of trial, Mr TH pleaded to two counts of s20 Grievous Bodily Harm. The allegation was that he slashed two members of his company, one to the neck and one to the back of the leg. It was submitted that TH’s actions had no intent to cause really serious harm.

At sentencing, we put forward a strong mitigation bundle containing TH’s medical records, charitable achievements, several character references as well as documents to demonstrate the exceptional progress TH had made since this offending. TH had been assisting people with their drugs and alcohol addictions and promoting exercise all to improve mental wellbeing. The sentencing Judge remarked that the character references were some of the best he has come across.

The sentencing Judge further remarked that sentencing does not have to have a one size fits all approach.

Mr TH was represented by Kally Sahota and his Barrister Mr Errol Ballentyne of 1 High Pavement Chambers.
